Taste, Chat, and Cheers at "Philly's Oldest Public Market"!

Throwing it back to December 2023 at the NACE (National Association for Catering and Events) Holiday Awards Party at The Reading Terminal Market, "Philly's Oldest Public Market".

Bourbon Eventure provided a "sip of knowledge" for the holidays amidst "delectable treats, delightful conversations and the networking of fellow members, reveling in the achievements of the year". Members dressed to impressed as multiple NACE professionals partnered together to curate a spectacular evening.

Within "one of America’s largest and oldest public markets, housed since 1893 in a National Historic Landmark building", Bourbon Eventure proudly paired various delectable cheese and chocolate as provided by All About Events, with a selection of whiskey to compliment, contrast or elevate a perfect pairing for the palate.

Let your taste buds dance with joy with these pairing recommendations:

Woodford Reserve ~ with it 's profile of charred oak, toffee, vanilla and pepper, pair it up with:

Cheese

Goat Cheese (Midnight Moon or similar)

Parmesan-Reggiano

Gruyere

Sweets/Nuts/Fruits:

Watermelon & Mint/Orange slices

Salted caramel milk chocolate

Peanut butter milk chocolate

Dried cranberries, toasted hazelnuts

As often as possible I like to promote local greats such as New Liberty Millstone Rye

with it's profile of honey, orange blossom and peppered spice from local grains, pair it up with:

Cheese:

Gouda

Parmigano

Full-bodied cheddar with nutty flavor/smooth texture

Brie (creamier)

Aged Gruyere

Sweets/Nuts/Fruits:

Plain or spiced milk chocolate

Dark chocolate

I spiced things up a bit with Johnnie Walker High-Rye Blended Scotch

with a balanced profile of sweetness-sweet wood, spice, fresh cut fruit, vanilla, green apple, rich toffee, and clove.

Cheese:

Gorgonzola

Blue Cheese (Light/creamy/nutty)

Sweets/Nuts/Fruits:

Milk chocolate

Salted butter caramel

Hazlenut

Almond

Pecan to compliment, dark chocolate to contrast

I opted to provide some alternate pairings to offer options pleasing for all palates:

Michter’s US1 Bourbon, Glenfiddich Fire & Cane, Dad’s Hat Rye Port Wine Finish

Michter’s Bourbon-mellow, earthy, vanilla, honey

Goat cheese, Parmesan-Reggiano, Gruyere

Salted caramel milk chocolate, Peanut butter milk chocolate, dried cranberries, toasted hazlenuts, oranges

Glenfiddich Fire & Cane

Peated/non-peated finished in Latin rum casks - sweet wood, spice, fresh cut fruit, vanilla, green apple

Gorgonzola, Light Blue Cheese (creamy/nutty)

Salted caramel, milk chocolate, hazelnut, almond, pecan

Dad’s Hat Rye Port Wine Finish

Sweet wine, woodiness, peppery spiciness

Gouda, Parmigano, full bodied cheddar with nutty flavor, Brie, Aged Gruyere; plain or spiced milk chocolate, dark chocolate

One NACE member commented:

"I appreciate the effort you put into this tasting experience compared to the one we did last month. You were so much more approachable, explaining the various profiles with drops of water. The spritzing of the whiskey on the cheese was amazing and completely elevated the pairing experience. Thank you!"
